RISK BEHAVIORS REGARDING HIV/AIDS AMONG ADOLESCENTS Sheng Yu School of Nursing of Peking Union Medical College Beijing, China Objective:
1. To describe the knowledge regarding
HIV/AIDS among Chinese adolescents. 2. To describe the attitudes regarding
HIV/AIDS among Chinese adolescents. 3. To describe the risk behaviors
regarding HIV/AIDS among Chinese adolescents. Methods: A stratified random sampling was used to select
294 Chinese adolescents who studied in the Beijing University of
Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Beijing Finance and Economy
University, Beijing, P.R China. The instrument used in this study were a
Demographic Data Profile, the Knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS Questionnaire
(KAQ), the Attitudes regarding AIDS Questionnaire (AAQ), and the Risk
Behaviors regarding HIV/AIDS Questionnaire (RBAQ). The CVI score of KAO,
AAQ and RBAQ were.85, 78 and. 90 respectively. The descriptive statistics
was used to analyze the data. Results:
1.The total mean score of the knowledge
regarding HIV/AIDS of adolescents was at fair level (=17.28, SD=3.70). Most of the subjects (64.29%) had fair
level of knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. 2. The total mean score of the
attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS of adolescents was at good level (=38.61, SD=4.40). Most of the subjects (69.73%) had high
level of attitudes regarding HIV/AIDS. 3. The total mean score of the risk
behaviors regarding HIV/AIDS of adolescents was at low level (=0.32, SD=1.37 ). Conclusion:
The findings of this study can be
implicated and utilized as baseline information for nurses to plan for
appropriate health education in order to increase knowledge, promote
attitudes and minimize behaviors regarding HIV/AIDS among Chinese
adolescents. Recommendations for nursing education and future research have
been made.
