THE KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF
MOTHERS WHO HAD UNDER THREE-YEARS CHILD ON DIAPER RASH

Diaper dermatitis, diaper rash
popularly known, is an acute inflammatory reaction of diapered skin. It
occurs with the use of cloth or disposable diapers. Diaper rash commonly
occurs in children. Parents sometimes does not know about diaper rash
because of mild reaction. The use of disposable diaper is practical and
hygienic, but if parents do not have enough knowledge about predisposing
factors of diaper rash it can be serious problem for the children. The
objectives were to explore knowledge attitude and practice of mothers about
diaper rash and the prevalence of diaper rash in under three years
children.
Method. Descriptive cross sectional study was
used. A sample of 132 respondents was collected using cluster random
sampling method. Data was taken directly from respondents by interview and
physical examination was performed for prevalence diaper rash. Result. Seventy-five
point eight percent of respondent had poor knowledge, 59.1% of respondent
had poor attitude, as they used powder for diaper rash, and 48.5% had poor
practice. Most of the respondents did not know about etiology and treatment
of diaper rash. Prevalence of diaper rash was 34.1%, the majority on age 0
�C 12 months (19.6%) and 17.42 % was baby girls.
