INTERHOSPITAL TRANSPORT
FOR CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN

Objective: To investigate
the decrease of mortality of critically ill children.
Methods: The critically
ill children community hospitals were transferred and admitted to tertiary
medical center though GuangZhou city interhospital transporting system for
critically ill children.
Results: Since 1998, 271 pediatric cases with critical
diseases had been transported into our hospital by our department without
death cases during transfer. The major three kind of listed respiratory
disease, central never disease and digestive diseases. Among these cases
above, 18 cases were ventilated artificially. The final mortality after
admission to hospital was 18.1%.
Conclusions: A specialized trained transporting team
with qualified equipments can guaranteed the intensive measures used to
make the serious conditions stable before transport, which benefit the safe
transfer and the decrease of mortality for various critically ill children.
Through the transporting system, the advantage of regional central hospital
can be taken of.
