QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ON:
INEFFECTIVE USE OF PAEDIATRIC DAY CARE UNIT (THROUGH PATIENT PARENT
SATISFACTION SURVEY)

Objectives:
1. To determine the
patient/parents perception of the quality of care delivered at the
paediatric day care unit. 2. To
identify causes of patient��s non-complian to the treatment regim. 3. To identify the causes of
children��s turnover from school, and to identify system weakness and to
demonstrate an appropriate action accordingly.
Methods: This descriptive study
was a combination of interview questionnaire, observations and medical
record review as a tool for data collection. The sample of 110 customers of
peadiatric day care unit �C 50 children and 70 parents who reported to
Government hospital Salmaniya Medical Complex at the time of study from
November through December 2000 were participated in this study under
special criteria.
Result: The finding revealed by
descriptive statistics and content analysis ineffective use and utilization
of services that made patient loose their interest in the treatment plan
and their education, become non compliant. Indicated also that the patient
parent satisfaction positively correlated with quality of services
provided, patient parent satisfaction increased from 22% to 98% and their
compliance to treatment increased from 35% to 88% and more will be
discussed.
Conclusion: The organization will
benefit by restructuring the work environment to one encourages and
reinforce customer satisfaction and increase children/parent compliant
specially patient who needs life long treatment such as sickle cell disease
and thelacaemic patients. Lack of awareness and knowledge of potential
hazard are the risk facing the children in the community. One of the main
challenges is to introduce healthier and more educated people in the
community by provision of enabling environment.
