Obejective: To explore whether
there is an early atherosclerosis in common carotid artery (CCA) and femoral
artery (FA) in children with simple obesity, the degree of the
atherosclerosis and related factors.
Methods: The artery endothelium
thickness and velocity of blood flow in CCA and FA were detected in obesity
group and normal control group by high-resolution Doppler colour
ultrasound, serum lipid was measured in both groups.
Results: Artery endothelium of
children with simple obesity was coarse, choppy and proliferated locally.
Furthermore, local hyperechoic mass were formed in some cases. As compared
with that of normal control group, the thickness of artery endothelium was
significantly thicker. Between moderate obesity and severe obesity ;course
of disease <5years and 5years;Boys and girls, the difference of
artery endothelium thickness was significant. Moreover, this change was
positively correlated with the level of serum lipid.
Conclusion: There is an early
atherosclerosis in CCA and FA in children with simple obesity. The degree
of the change is correlated with the degree of obesity, the duration of the
course of disease and sex. This change is positively correlated with the
level of serum lipid.
