TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINAL HERBS ��WEI PING��GRANULE TREAT PEPTIC ULCERS IN CHILDREN

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of ��Wei Ping�� granule in peptic ulcers with children.

Methods: All 98 children with peptic ulcers confirmed by flexible gastroscopy in Beijing Children��s Hospital between June 1992 and December 1997. Detected Helicobacter pyloric (Hp) used rapid urease testing (RUT) on gastric biopsy and biopsy specimens with Giemsa stain. All patients took ��Wei Ping�� granule orally over 4 weeks. After the therapy observe the symptoms and physical signs to evaluate the curative effect. 65 children were rechecked by gastroscopy, 76 children were followed-up after discharge.

Result: 98 children (79 children with duodenal ulcers, 19 children with gastric ulcers) were surveyed in this study. The clinical cure rate was 55.1%(54/98); improvement rate was 39.8%(39/98); ineffective rate was 5.1%(5/98); Total effective rate was 94.9%. To evaluate the curative effect through gastroscopy: cure rate was 83.1%(54/65); improvement rate was 12.3%(8/65); ineffective rate was 4.6%(3/65); Total effective rate was 95.4%. The positive rate of Hp in peptic ulcers was 56.1%(55/98). After therapy Hp eradication rate was 63.6%(35/55). 76 children were followed-up after discharge, follow-up survey rate was 76.5%. Peptic ulcers recurrence rate was 25.0%(19/76).

Conclusions: Traditional Chinese Medicine ��Wei ping���� granule improve the curative effect and get lower recurrence rate in peptic ulcers.
