TRANSPORTATION OF CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN:
EXPERIENCE OF 150 CASES

Objective:
To explore the suitable mode of transporting
critically ill children in towns in China.
Methods: A first aid team is established on the PICU basis; All
personnel, equipment, transport mode and procedure were standardized and
prepared available.
Results: 150 cases were transported during the past 3 years. Among them
37 cases (24.7%) were congestive heart failure; 25 cases (16.7%) were acute
intracranial hypertension; 14 cases (9.3%) were septic shock; 7 cases
(4.7%) were respiratory failure; 7 cases (4.7%) were intracranial
hemorrhage; 3 cases (2%) were cardiac arrest and the other 57 patients
(38%) with various serious illness. No death during transportation had
taken place .141 cases were cured after hospitalization.
Conclusion: The key points of successful transportation include the
participating of pediatric emergency experts, ready equipment, rapid response
and intensive care.
