Objective: The main excellences of impulse oscillation
techniques are non-invasive and not dependent on the active co-operation of
the children. It can be used in young children. There are no reference
values for Chinese children aged 4-6 years now. This study was to test the
impulse oscillation respiratory parameters in normal children aged 4-6
years and compare with the values provided by Berd/lecht.
Method: The normal children come from the nearest
kindergarten. They all need to complete the questionnaires about the health
and physical check-up. 124(boys 63, girls 61) children were confirmed
normal who were tested using Jaeger Masterscreen IOS instrument.
Result: Respiratory impedance (Zrs), respiratory
resistance (Rrs) and reactance (Xrs) at 5,10,15,20,25 and 35 Hz, Resonant
frequency (Fres), central and peripheral resistance (Rc, Rp) were measured.
With increased in age and height, Zrs, Fres Rrs and Xrs were decreased.
These agree with the Berd/lecht. But except Zrs and R10 had no difference
with the Berd/lecht, others such as R15, 20,25 and X5 were significantly
low, and R5 was high.
Conclusion: There are significant difference respiratory
parameters between different ethnic children. We need the predicted
equations for Chinese children.
