Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder is defined as an acquired
disease characterized by localized diffuse hyperplastic extensions of the
mucosa into, and often beyond, the thickened gallbladder
(Rokitansky-Aschoffs sinuses). In recent years, attention has been drawn
to its malignant potential. To our knowledge the occurence of
adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder has never been reported in newborns. We
report a 3 days-old girl who admitted to our emergency room with a
siyanosis and prematurity. The abdominal USG performed three days later due
to recurrent vomiting revealed multipl hyperechogenic extensions projecting
from the gallbladder wall into the lumen. This finding was thought to be
related to adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder. She did not undergo any
invasive procedures since she was symptom-free but she is still followed-up
annually due to the malignant potential of adenomyomatosis of the
gallbladder.
