Objective: To measure the level of
GBS type III specific antibody in prenatal mother and neonatal cord serums,
in order to tentatively explore the reason why the incidence of neonatal
GBS infection in China is relatively low.
Method: Randomly select 102 pregnancy women, measure the level of
GBS type III specific antibody in these prenatal mother and their neonatal
cord serums using the method of ELISA. 62 cases of neonates whose age were
less than 7 days and 32 cases of children whose age were between 2 months
and 13years old served as control.
Results: The average level of the
antibody in the serums of mother was 21.59g/mlit was 17.90g/ml in the paired cord serums, which was correlate with the
former (r=0.83, p<0.05) and increased as the gestational weeks increased; in the cases of
neonates whose age were less than 7days the level of this kind of antibody
was 14.75g/mlit was 10.75g/ml in the children whose age
were between 2 months and 13 years, compare these four groups, the level of
the antibody decreased (p<0.05).
Conclusions: 1. Compared our results
with data from other countries such as USA, Sweden and Gambian the level in
our cases was significantly higher than them, and higher than 2g/ml which is considered now
protective, so the incidence of GBS infection is relatively low maybe
because of the relatively higher level of antibody. 2. This type of antibody
transferred from mother through placenta and decreased as the age
increased.
