INFECTIOUS STATE OF THREE KINDS OF VIRUSES (CVB,
CMV AND EBV) AND ITS EFFECT ON IgE IN ASTHMA CHILDREN Objective: In order to
study infectious state of three kinds of viruses that was coxsackievirus B
(CVB) cytomegalovirus (CMV) and
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in asthma and its effect on IgE.

Methods: 40 children with asthma were studied, 26 boys and 14 girls,
aged 3 to 12 year. There was a control group that was 49 children with
pneumonia, 23 boys and 26 girls, aged 2 to 12 year. The antigen of CVB
(CVB-Ag) and antibody of CVB (CVB-IgM), of CMV (CMV-IgM) and of EBV (EBV-
IgM) was tested by ELISA method. The level of IgE was tested by
particle-enhanced immunonephelometry. .
Results: (1) Three kinds of virus infectious incidence in asthma
group were CVB 62.50% (25/40) CMV5% (2/40)EBV 0 and in
pneumonia group were CVB 40.82% (20/49) CMV 6.12% (3/49)EBV2.041/49The positive
incidence of CVB was the highest among that of CMV and EBV(P0.01) in both
groups. But there was higher positive incidence of CVB in asthma than that
of group pneumonia (P<0.05). (2)The IgE level of group asthma was higher
than that of group pneumonia (p<0.01). (3)The IgE level was
649.064394.550 IU/ml in CVB positive asthma children and 353.800255.942
IU/ml in CVB negative asthma children. The IgE level of CVB positive asthma
children increased than that in CVB negative asthma children P<0.05. The IgE
level was 300.818291.128 IU/ml in CVB positive pneumonia children
and 255.336256.489 IU/ml in CVB negative pneumonia children. There
was no difference in CVB positive pneumonia children and CVB negative
pneumonia children P>0.05. But there was no
linear relation between CVB positive intensity and IgE level.
Conclusions: There was high CVB infectious incidence and having
association between CVB infection and IgE level in asthma children. It is
important that we took prevention medications of CVB infection for asthma
children.
